The video editing tool from ByteDance, CapCut, announced it will discontinue its complimentary cloud storage for hosting user content from August 5 onward.
Recent notifications have alerted CapCut users to upcoming modifications in the service’s free plan. Previously, the platform offered 1 GB of cloud storage at no cost — a feature that is being phased out. Going forward, users will be required to purchase cloud storage space on CapCut.
CapCut’s pricing structure includes a 100GB storage plan for $2.49 monthly and a 1000GB storage option for $7.49 a month. This adjustment necessitates that creators either adjust by purchasing additional storage or find alternative means to host their files.
Moreover, CapCut’s previous arrangement allowed up to five individuals to collaborate on a single account within the free model — a number now reduced to two collaborators.
“Starting from August 5th, a CapCut account comes with the benefit of adding one free collaborator. For additional collaboration needs, our Team Tier package is available, granting CapCut users the ability for more accounts to utilize the shared cloud space,” stated a spokesperson for the company to TechCrunch.
Earlier in the year, YouTube expanded the reach of its CapCut competitor, the Create app, to an additional 13 markets including regions like Brazil, Spain, Canada, Australia, and Hong Kong.
