As Threads Approaches Its First Anniversary, It Boasts Over 175 Million Monthly Active Users

by admin

Mark Zuckerberg recently disclosed that Threads, Meta’s burgeoning social platform, has surged to over 175 million active users monthly, as shared in a post on Wednesday. The update was provided just days before Threads celebrates its first year of existence. Previously, in April, Zuckerberg had noted that the user count for Threads stood at more than 150 million monthly, marking a steady climb from February’s figure of 130 million.

The advent of Threads on July 3, 2023, was particularly timely, capturing the attention of those seeking a fresh alternative to X (the platform previously known as Twitter), especially after Elon Musk’s comprehensive overhaul of the network.

This new user metric announcement from Threads coincides with Musk’s recent assertion that X has achieved a 600 million monthly active user milestone, half of whom are daily users. However, Musk left it unsaid whether this figure accounts for bots or automated profiles.

In conjunction with its latest announcement, Meta shared insights on the ways Threads is being utilized. It emerged that a significant majority, 63%, of all content shared on Threads consists of text-only posts, though this doesn’t negate the presence of visual content, with one out of four posts incorporating at least one image.

Over 50 million Tags have been initiated on the platform, with PhotographyThreads, BookThreads, and GymThreads emerging as the most popular categories.

Although the sheer volume of monthly active users can’t exclusively define Threads’ success, it undeniably highlights the platform’s ability to attract a considerable audience. Threads’ integration and promotion via Instagram may also play a significant role in its burgeoning user base.

Threads has progressively introduced several highly requested functionalities since its inception, including a web application, the capability to follow trending topics, and the much-anticipated edit button. Despite looking to offer an experience somewhat parallel to that of X, Threads is deliberately steering clear of political content. While Meta has clarified its stance on not promoting news content on Threads, X continues to be a hub for discussions on live events, such as the recent presidential debate.
