AI-Driven Traffic to US Retailers Surged 393% in Q1, Along with a Boost in Revenue

by admin

As of March 2026, traffic from AI to retail websites in the United States has surged significantly, reporting a 393% increase year-on-year. This trend follows a remarkable uplift during the previous holiday shopping period, where AI-driven visits escalated by 693%, according to the latest data from Adobe.

The analysis highlights that AI users are more engaged than traditional shoppers, with increased conversion rates and spending per visit. In March 2026, conversions from AI traffic improved by 42% compared to human visitors, marking a stark turnaround from March 2025, when AI traffic converted at a rate 38% lower than that of regular shoppers.

Adobe’s findings, derived from analysis across over 1 trillion visits and a survey of more than 5,000 U.S. respondents regarding AI usage for online shopping, reveal that 39% of respondents utilised AI tools, with 85% acknowledging an enhanced shopping experience due to these technology aids. This is attributed to AI’s capability to streamline product searches and utilise discounts effectively. Additionally, 66% of surveyed individuals expressed confidence in the accuracy of AI-driven shopping results.

In a notable contrast to the publishing industry, which has seen a decline in referral traffic due to AI, retailers are increasingly motivated to optimise their websites for AI integration. Despite the advantages, Adobe highlighted that many retail websites are still not fully prepared for AI engagement. Approximately 25% of homepage content remains unoptimised for large language models (LLMs), with a staggering 34% of individual product pages inaccessible to AI.

Consumer behaviour has shifted, with AI-driven visitors displaying 12% higher engagement rates. They spend 48% longer on retail websites and explore 13% more pages per visit compared to those arriving through traditional means. The revenue generated by AI visits has also increased, with a report showing that revenue per visit from AI traffic was 37% greater than that of non-AI visitors in March 2026—an impressive recovery from the previous year’s 128% higher revenue from human traffic.

Adobe recommends that retailers focus on making their sites more AI-friendly to remain competitive in the evolving landscape of online shopping. As AI continues to play a pivotal role in consumer behaviour, the necessity for improved accessibility and engagement strategies becomes paramount for retailers looking to leverage this technology effectively.
