The latest advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) platforms promise efficiency by allowing users to assign tasks to AI assistants, which can manage planning and execution while considering past preferences. This technology is particularly beneficial for design professionals who seek streamlined and automated workflows for content creation.
Canva is enhancing its user experience with the introduction of its upgraded AI assistant, which enables users to generate editable designs through simple text prompts. This assistant employs an AI model to interpret these prompts, autonomously select tools, and provide multiple design options. The use of layers in design creation allows users to customise various elements of their final product.
This update aligns with Canva’s ambition to integrate its AI assistant into users’ daily tasks, also incorporating features like image and website generation. Competitors, including Adobe with its Firefly AI assistant and Figma, have also begun implementing similar functionalities to boost workflow integration.
Cliff Obrecht, Canva’s co-founder and COO, remarked on the consistency of small businesses utilising Canva for their workflows, emphasising the necessity for final editing and publishing actions within their platform. He highlighted Canva’s collaborative capabilities with major AI developers like Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI.
While a significant portion of Canva’s revenue stems from individual users and small teams, its enterprise segment is experiencing robust growth, reporting a 100% increase year-on-year. Following a recent valuation of $42 billion, the company anticipates going public next year.
Exciting new integrations are also part of this update, allowing the AI to gain context through emails, conversations, and other data from tools like Slack and Gmail. Furthermore, Canva is introducing a feature that enables the AI to browse the internet and schedule tasks autonomously, generating drafts for user approval prior to publication.
Canva’s AI code generator has also seen improvements, with enhanced capabilities for importing HTML and creating customised spreadsheets from text instructions. The company claims enhanced efficiency in its AI models; notably, its Lucid Origin image-generation model operates five times faster and is thirty times more cost-effective, while its video model functions seven times quicker and is seventeen times cheaper.
Canva AI 2.0 is currently in a research preview phase, with plans for a broader rollout in the coming weeks, promising to further transform how users interact with design and content creation tools.
