Astropad’s Workbench Innovates Remote Desktop Solutions for AI Agents, Moving Beyond Traditional IT Support

The Apple Mac Mini has experienced a surge in popularity, particularly in China, due to its suitability for experimenting with autonomous AI agents like OpenClaw. In line with this trend, Astropad has launched a new remote desktop solution called Astropad Workbench, aimed specifically at enabling users to manage these AI agents effectively. Astropad’s CEO, Matt Ronge, describes Workbench as a tool “for the AI era”.

While the AI agents themselves may operate without a screen, human operators need occasional access to monitor logs and outputs or to restart tasks. Workbench is designed to facilitate this interaction with features like high-fidelity streaming and support for various input methods, including voice dictation, keyboard, and Apple Pencil, along with iPad and iPhone compatibility.

This remote desktop solution also allows users to switch easily between multiple Mac Minis using a device chooser feature. The concept originated from Astropad’s own needs, as the team frequently used AI agents and sought a better way to monitor their status during extended tasks. Existing remote desktop applications lacked the specific functionalities required for AI management, prompting Astropad to create Workbench tailored to these demands.

In addition to its user-friendly design, Workbench boasts Astropad’s proprietary LIQUID protocol, which ensures high-quality streaming even at Retina resolutions. This technology is also employed in Astropad’s other products, which include tools that turn iPads into second displays and drawing tablets.

Despite the competition from established remote desktop solutions like Jump Desktop and AnyDesk, Ronge asserts that Workbench serves a niche purpose of overseeing AI agents. Users can check logs and manage their AI’s progression conveniently from their iPhones or iPads.

Astropad has a history of developing quality iPad applications, and their new offering incorporates Apple’s voice model, enabling users to interact with their AI agents in a more intuitive way. Although still in its early stages and subject to refinement, the company aims to expand Workbench’s compatibility to Windows and Linux platforms in the future.

The software, compatible with macOS 15 and iOS 26, is available as a complimentary download providing up to 20 minutes of daily access, with an unlimited option priced at $10 per month or $50 annually. With over 100,000 customers and a focus on AI management, Astropad is optimistic about reaching new users in both the consumer and business sectors. According to Ronge, the productivity benefits observed with Workbench could drive significant adoption among businesses looking to enhance their operations with AI assistance.
