Google’s Vids App Now Allows You to Control Avatars Using Prompts

by admin

On Thursday, Google announced a significant update to its video editing application, Vids, incorporating new functionalities designed to enhance user creativity and streamline video production. Notable features now include the ability to control and customise avatars using natural language text prompts, support for the Veo 3.1 video generation model, options for direct video exports to YouTube, and a new Chrome extension for screen recording.

The update introduces a feature that allows users to instruct avatars to perform specific actions in a scene by simply using text prompts. These avatars can engage with various props or products while maintaining consistent character traits despite the dynamic changes. Additionally, users can personalise their characters by adjusting appearances, clothing, and backgrounds to suit the video’s theme.

In an effort to expand its editing flexibility, Google recently integrated its Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro music creation models into Vids, enabling users to add sound effects and music. The new Veo 3.1 model allows the creation of eight-second clips within the editing tool, with Google offering up to ten free generations per month to all users, while premium Google AI Ultra and Workspace AI Ultra accounts can generate up to 1,000 videos monthly.

To simplify the sharing process, Vids now supports direct exports to YouTube. This feature automatically sets exported videos to private, giving users the chance to review content before making it publicly accessible.

Moreover, Google is introducing a screen recording extension for Chrome, which will allow users to capture audio or video directly from their screens, adding another layer of functionality to the Vids suite.

Since its launch in 2024, Google has consistently evolved Vids, targeting enterprise content creation needs. The platform has seen enhancements like AI avatars and the inclusion of 2D and 3D cartoon-style avatars, along with support for various voiceover languages, including French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Japanese.

As Vids continues to develop, it faces growing competition from other platforms such as Synthesia, HeyGen, D-ID, and Lemon Slice, all vying to redefine video creation processes. This latest update positions Google Vids as a powerful tool for creative professionals and casual users alike, streamlining video editing within a user-friendly interface.
