Exclusive: Beehiiv Ventures into Podcasting, Targeting Patreon

by admin

Newsletter platform Beehiiv is set to enhance its offerings by launching native podcast hosting features, allowing creators to manage their podcasts—all within the Beehiiv ecosystem. This new functionality enables users to publish episodes, engage with subscribers, and monitor analytics directly on the platform.

Co-founder and CEO Tyler Denk highlighted this move as a logical extension of Beehiiv’s capabilities, citing the strong overlap between newsletters and podcasts in terms of episodic, long-form content that is usually monetised through sponsorships. He noted that customer feedback has been instrumental in shaping Beehiiv’s roadmap, with many users expressing a desire for an integrated toolset, particularly for podcasting.

With a growing user base already hosting podcasts elsewhere, this integration into Beehiiv supports its aim to establish itself as a comprehensive platform for content creators, competing directly with Patreon and Substack, which have long supported podcasts. The addition of podcast hosting complements Beehiiv’s suite of creator-centric tools, including those for website creation and analytics.

Beehiiv’s strategy also aims to attract creators migrating from competitors by not taking a share from their earnings—creators retain 100% of revenue generated through their podcasts. This contrasts with Substack and Patreon, which deduct a percentage from creators’ revenue. Additionally, creators can bundle podcasts with existing subscriptions, offering perks like exclusive episodes or early access.

With plans to broaden its advertising network beyond newsletters, Beehiiv is also looking to dynamically serve ads within podcasts. The platform is currently hiring a Head of Podcasts to spearhead these initiatives.

At launch, several podcasts will be available on Beehiiv, including “Genshe,” “505 podcast,” and “Sweat Equity,” among others. Denk expects a significant uptake from existing users and anticipates that upcoming podcasts will further boost the platform’s credibility.

Acknowledging the interconnected nature of newsletters and podcasts, Denk noted that newsletters can enhance podcast reach while podcasts can drive newsletter subscriptions. The goal is to streamline this process, reducing the need for creators to juggle various tools.

Creators can directly upload podcasts to Beehiiv, which will distribute them across major platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify, while also supporting various audio file formats. Each episode will receive its own SEO-optimised webpage, helping to keep listeners within the Beehiiv ecosystem.

Furthermore, the analytics provided by Beehiiv are built to industry standards, offering detailed insights by demographics and technology, thereby empowering creators with real-time data on their audience engagement.

Since its inception in 2021, Beehiiv has experienced rapid growth, recently raising $33 million in funding and reporting its best quarter yet in Q1 2026. As it ventures into podcasting, the team remains poised to provide creators with a more consolidated and efficient platform for their content.
