Honor has unveiled more details about its upcoming “Robot phone,” featuring a movable camera arm, ahead of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Promised for launch in the latter half of the year, this innovative device boasts remarkable capabilities, including the ability to respond to various situations autonomously.
This phone comes equipped with a distinct “personality,” enabling it to interact using gestures like head nods and shakes, as well as dance along to music. Users can communicate with the assistant via text or voice prompts. In a demonstration, Honor showed how the robot could suggest clothing choices by nodding or shaking its head in response to a user’s inquiry.
Featuring a 200-megapixel camera mounted on a three-axis gimbal for enhanced stability, the device ensures smooth video and photo capture. It includes a Super Steady mode for stable video and a Spinshot feature that permits the camera to rotate at angles of 90 or 180 degrees for cinematic shots.
The phone’s robotic camera enhances video calls, employing AI-driven object tracking that aims to deliver seamless user experiences akin to Apple’s “Center Stage” functionality, but on a more advanced level. One of the key innovations lies in Honor’s development of a unique micro motor that governs the camera’s movement. The company employed techniques similar to those used in foldable phones, granting increased robustness while accommodating a four-degree-of-freedom gimbal system within the phone’s structure. Additionally, it incorporates materials akin to those found in the Honor Magic V6’s hinge, noted for their impressive tensile strength of 2800 MPa.
In conjunction with the Robot phone, Honor also launched the Honor Magic V6 foldable smartphone featuring a hefty 6,600 mAh battery, as well as the Honor MagicPad 4 tablet and Honor MagicBook 14 laptop, showcasing its commitment to innovation across its product range.
As Honor prepares to enter this new domain of technology, the anticipation for the Robot phone is set to grow, potentially redefining how users interact with their mobile devices.
