On Monday, Apple announced the launch of the iPhone 17e, its latest budget smartphone, priced at $599 and set for release on March 11.
Equipped with the powerful A19 chip, which is also included in the standard iPhone 17, the device will feature Apple’s AI capabilities. The base model offers an impressive 256 GB of storage, doubling the entry-level storage from the previous model.
A standout enhancement in the iPhone 17e is the introduction of MagSafe and Qi2 technology, allowing for wireless charging speeds of up to 15W. The phone will be available in three colours: black, white, and a new soft pink.
In terms of connectivity, the iPhone 17e boasts Apple’s latest C1X cellular modem, which the company claims is twice as fast and 30% more energy-efficient than the C1 modem used in the iPhone 16e.
The camera system on the iPhone 17e features the same 48-megapixel sensor found in the iPhone 16e, enhanced with a Fusion camera that provides an optical-quality 2x Telephoto capability. This allows users to capture closer shots with ease. The smartphone can record videos in stunning 4K quality with Dolby Vision at up to 60 frames per second, as well as in Spatial Audio, enhancing the listening experience with devices like AirPods or the Apple Vision Pro.
The device is also rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, and its 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display benefits from Ceramic Shield 2 technology. This protects the screen with three times the scratch resistance compared to its predecessor.
Furthermore, the iPhone 17e includes essential features such as Emergency SOS via satellite, Roadside Assistance, and Find My, ensuring user safety and convenience. Notably, the smartphone is made with eco-friendly practices in mind, featuring 30% recycled materials, which includes 85% recycled aluminium in the enclosure and 100% recycled cobalt in its battery.
With these advancements, the iPhone 17e aims to deliver a robust yet affordable alternative in Apple’s smartphone lineup, catering to consumers looking for quality at a lower price point.
