Cloaked, a security solutions provider founded by siblings Arjun and Abhijay Bhatnagar in 2020, is revolutionising consumer data privacy with its integrated offerings. Traditional security tools often focus on singular aspects like password protection or VPNs, compelling users to juggle multiple services. Cloaked’s recent announcement of securing $375 million in Series B funding aims to enhance its consumer products and expand into the enterprise sector.
Initially, Cloaked allowed users to create multiple identities by generating unique emails, phone numbers, and passwords, enabling secure logins without exposing personal data. Over time, the company has broadened its services to include data removal, identity theft insurance, VPN, dark web monitoring, and recently, AI-powered call screening. The startup’s vision addresses the rising threats in a digital landscape where hackers exploit sophisticated AI techniques to compromise personal information.
CEO Arjun Bhatnagar emphasised the urgency to protect users from AI-driven scams, calling it a critical issue of personal and financial safety. Cloaked’s new initiatives aim to provide AI-enhanced protection across multiple channels, including text messages, email, and web browsing. The company is also experimenting with an AI agent that could manage tasks like changing passwords in the event of a data breach, prioritising user safety while ensuring sensitive data isn’t stored in the cloud.
Cloaked has experienced exponential growth, boasting over 350,000 paying customers and having safeguarded 10 million identities while cleansing more than a billion records from data brokers. The company’s call-screening feature has successfully processed over 50 million spam or scam calls since its launch.
Transitioning into the enterprise market, Cloaked will extend many of its consumer protections to employees, aiding them with identity management and scam alerts. This service allows corporate Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) to assess individual risk levels and review the effectiveness of security measures against potential threats.
With a team of nearly 70 employees, Cloaked is looking to expand further in product development, engineering, sales, and international markets. The company finds itself in competition with established names like 1Password, Firefox, and Proton, alongside overlapping products with investor DuckDuckGo.
The recent funding round, led by General Catalyst and Liberty City Ventures, attracted several notable investors without divulging the startup’s valuation. Cloaked had previously raised over $29 million in earlier investment rounds.
Mark Crane from General Catalyst highlighted Cloaked’s broad suite of privacy tools, which align well with consumer needs in an increasingly AI-dominated digital landscape. He envisions the company as a vital resource that will empower users to take control of their privacy in an age where AI plays a significant role in the internet’s evolution.
