Apple Unveils the AirPods Max 2 Without Fanfare

Apple has officially launched the AirPods Max 2, providing an upgrade to its premium headphones that debuted in 2020. Priced at AUD 549, these new headphones will be available for pre-order starting March 25, with a release scheduled for early April. They are offered in a variety of colours: midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue.

One of the key enhancements is the active noise cancellation (ANC), which is reportedly up to 1.5 times more effective than that of the original model. Additionally, the new Adaptive Audio feature automatically tailors ANC and Transparency modes according to the user’s environment, ensuring an optimised listening experience. The Transparency mode has also been refined, now featuring a digital signal-processing algorithm that works in conjunction with the H2 chip for a more natural sound, allowing users to stay aware of their surroundings.

The AirPods Max 2 include a Live Translation feature, facilitating communication across languages in real-time. Voice isolation technology further enhances call quality, emphasising the user’s voice while filtering out background noise.

Audio performance has been notably improved, with a new high-dynamic-range amplifier delivering clearer sound. The headphones support Spatial Audio, enhancing the positional accuracy of instruments and improving the overall audio quality.

A new Camera Remote feature allows users to control their iPhone or iPad’s camera remotely via the Digital Crown, making it convenient for photography and video recording.

To protect users from excessive environmental noise while maintaining the integrity of their audio, a Loud Sound Reduction feature has been included. The microphone quality has also been upgraded, ensuring better audio capture for podcasts, interviews, and other creative endeavours.

For those keen on high-fidelity audio, the AirPods Max 2 supports 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio through a USB-C connection. The headphones will be available in over 30 countries and regions, promising a global reach for Apple’s latest audio innovation.
