Google Unveils AI Mode in the US, Enhancing Features for Comprehensive Research and Comparison Shopping

by admin

Google has announced the impending launch of its AI Mode, a new feature for Google Search aimed at enhancing user interaction with multi-part questions through an AI interface. This feature, revealed at the company’s annual developer conference, Google I/O 2025, will be available to all users in the U.S. starting this week.

AI Mode builds upon Google’s existing AI Overviews, which deliver AI-generated summaries atop search results. While this feature garnered over 1.5 billion monthly users, it faced criticism for providing inaccurate or odd advice, such as a suggestion for using glue on pizza. Nonetheless, Google claims the feature was successful in terms of user engagement. Now, AI Overviews will transition out of Labs into over 200 countries and territories, with support for more than 40 languages.

The AI Mode allows users to pose complex queries and follow-up questions. Originally in testing within Google’s Search Labs, this rollout comes as Google competes with other AI platforms like OpenAI and Perplexity, which have begun integrating search functionalities into their systems. The introduction of AI Mode represents Google’s commitment to evolving the future of search.

Key new capabilities of AI Mode include “Deep Search,” which deconstructs questions into subtopics to provide comprehensive responses. This feature can issue multiple queries simultaneously, enabling it to deliver detailed and well-cited reports in mere minutes, saving users valuable research time. Google recommends using Deep Search for comparison shopping or other detailed inquiries.

In addition, Google is launching virtual “try it on” functionality that allows users to upload their images and see how clothes would look on them, accounting for 3D shapes and fabric characteristics. Another upcoming shopping tool will automatically purchase items when they reach a certain price, although users will still need to confirm the final purchase.

Both AI Overviews and AI Mode will operate on a custom variant of Google’s Gemini 2.5. Furthermore, as these features expand, AI Mode will facilitate complex data analysis for queries across various sectors, including sports and finance. This allows users to formulate detailed comparisons instantly, complete with visual data presentations.

Moreover, Project Mariner will enable this AI system to perform tasks on users’ behalf, such as finding the best concert tickets or local events through real-time web interactions. Another feature slated for summer 2025, titled “Search Live,” will allow users to interact with Google’s AI while the camera captures real-time visuals, facilitating an unparalleled conversational experience.

Personalised search results will also be a hallmark of the new features, leveraging past search data and connected Google Apps to preemptively suggest relevant services during travel or events. Google aims to allay privacy concerns by allowing users full control over app connections.

With these innovative features, Google is poised to redefine user experiences in search, blending advanced AI functionalities to facilitate more intuitive interactions.
