Google is set to host its biggest developer conference of the year, Google I/O 2025, on May 20 and 21. Key figures, including CEO Sundar Pichai and DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis, will unveil significant updates across various Google products, with a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI).

The spotlight at this year’s conference will likely be on Google’s Gemini AI models, as the company seeks to assert its lead over competitors like OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI. Anticipation is also building around updates to DeepMind’s innovative projects, notably Project Astra, which involves advanced multimodal AI capabilities. Last year’s conference hinted at smart glasses integrating Project Astra technology, suggesting a possible reveal this year.

A predominant theme will be the integration of AI into Google’s core products. Elizabeth Reid, head of Search, is scheduled to illustrate how generative AI is transforming search functionalities. Additional sessions will delve into the application of AI in scientific research, the use of AI agents to enhance user experiences, and the role of AI in steering Waymo’s autonomous vehicles.

Kicking off at 10 a.m. PT on May 20, the Google I/O 2025 keynote will be accessible via livestream from the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. Following the keynote, a developer-focused session will start at 1:30 p.m. PT, providing insights tailored more towards developers than consumers.

Later in the day, Hassabis will engage in discussion with Alex Kantrowitz, host of the Big Technology Podcast, about the future of DeepMind AI and its broader implications. Concurrently, attendees can tune in for updates on Android, Chrome, and Google Cloud.

Although some of the talks will not be livestreamed, TechCrunch will cover the key announcements as they unfold.

Prior to Google I/O 2025, Google will host “The Android Show” on May 13, where preliminary announcements regarding Android will be made, starting at 10 a.m. PT, also available via livestream.

This year’s Google I/O promises exciting announcements and developments, particularly in artificial intelligence, highlighting Google’s commitment to driving innovation in tech.
