Gravitee Secures $60 Million to Enhance API Management for Businesses

by admin

Gravitee, a platform that aids companies in managing their APIs and digital traffic networks, has successfully secured $60 million in a Series C funding round. This round was led by Sixth Street Growth with contributions from Riverside Acceleration Capital and Albion VC. With this latest funding, Gravitee’s total funding has exceeded $125 million, according to CEO Rory Blundell, who indicated that the new resources will be directed towards developing innovative product features and expanding into new markets.

In today’s digital landscape, data systems are increasingly intricate. Blundell notes that APIs, which facilitate communication between various applications, often come with unique tools and protocols, creating potential blind spots that can hinder innovation without a unified control plane. As organisations rapidly integrate AI agents, streaming data, and hybrid systems, they are confronted with significant risks regarding security, observability, and management of their API and event infrastructures.

Founded in 2015 by Blundell and a team of developers, Gravitee started as an open-source initiative before evolving into a business model that offers paid services to support further development of its free software. Their platform is versatile, allowing deployment on-premises, for self-hosting, or through a software-as-a-service plan. Gravitee’s offerings include an API design tool for testing and a user dashboard to visualise API deployment components.

Gravitee faces competition from firms like Blobr, which focuses on enterprise API monetisation, and StepZen, which is developing graph technologies for API connectivity. However, Gravitee differentiates itself by providing support for both asynchronous APIs, which return data at a later time, and synchronous APIs, which deliver data immediately—an advantage not commonly offered by some competitors.

Currently, Gravitee boasts a diverse clientele, including well-known companies such as Blue Yonder, Michelin, Roche, and Tide. In the fiscal year 2024, the company’s annual recurring revenue reached $22 million. With approximately 130 employees, Gravitee intends to expand its workforce to around 200 by the close of the year, further solidifying its position in the market.
