Apple Greenlights Spotify Update, Enabling US Users to Purchase Audiobooks Directly in the App

by admin

Spotify has revealed that Apple has approved its latest app update, which now enables iPhone users in the United States to purchase individual audiobooks directly through the app. This update also allows users to easily check audiobook prices and buy extra listening time beyond the initial offering of 15 hours.

In its announcement, Spotify noted that this change significantly reduces barriers for new and existing users to discover and enjoy audiobooks. It also provides publishers and authors with an effective means of connecting with their audience and expanding their reach.

This long-awaited feature comes on the heels of a U.S. court ruling that instructed Apple to cease its practice of imposing fees on purchases made outside of the App Store. Previously, users had to buy their audiobooks through a web browser before they could access them on the app, a process that was cumbersome and left many frustrated. With the new update, acquiring an audiobook is a much simpler process, requiring just a few taps.

Furthermore, the update addresses an issue where iPhone users had to go online to purchase additional listening hours, known as “top-ups.” Now, they can conveniently make these purchases directly within the app, with each top-up costing $13 for an additional 10 hours of listening time.

Earlier this month, Spotify also began allowing iPhone users to subscribe outside the App Store, reinforced by another update from Apple that offers access to pricing information and external payment links. Collectively, these changes reflect a significant shift in how Spotify is able to operate within Apple’s ecosystem, ultimately benefiting consumers and enhancing the user experience.
