On Thursday, TikTok announced the launch of in-app guided meditation exercises, which are aimed at enhancing users’ sleep quality and reducing late-night scrolling. This feature, initially tested with a select group of teenagers earlier in the year, is now available to all users.
For users under the age of 18, the meditation function will be enabled by default. When these teens use the app after 10 PM, they will encounter a guided meditation session designed to help them unwind and go to sleep. This session features a calming display, soft background music, and breathing exercises. If they disregard the initial prompt, a follow-up full-screen notification will urge them to consider sleeping.
In response to ongoing concerns regarding the platform’s impact on young users, TikTok has been rolling out several safety features in recent years. The introduction of this meditation offering reflects the company’s commitment to addressing these worries and meeting regulatory expectations.
For adult users interested in this feature, it can be activated through the app’s Screen Time settings. Users can adjust their settings to specify their desired time for the meditation sessions to appear nightly.
Additionally, TikTok revealed its intention to donate $2.3 million in advertising credits to 31 mental health organisations across 19 countries as a part of its Mental Health Education Fund.
