Google Introduces Enhanced Device-Level Features for Its Advanced Protection Program

by admin

At the Android Show preceding Google I/O 2025, Google revealed enhancements to its Advanced Protection program with the upcoming Android 16 release. Designed for individuals facing significant digital threats—like politicians and journalists—these new features aim to bolster device security.

The update introduces a novel approach to logging device activity, which will now be encrypted and stored in the cloud, permitting users to access their logs exclusively. In instances where a device is suspected of being compromised, these logs can be analysed for potential threats.

Additionally, Google is implementing USB protection, enabling charging only from approved USB connections while the device remains locked. A notable security measure includes an automatic restart of devices locked for a consecutive 72-hour period, as highlighted in a recent Google Play services update.

Android 16 further fortifies security by blocking automatic reconnections to unsecured Wi-Fi networks for users with the Advanced Protection enabled. Moreover, a private processing feature has been introduced to detect possible scams during phone conversations, building on a feature rolled out earlier this year for Pixel devices.

These enhancements are solely part of Google’s ongoing commitment to protect its users, especially those in public roles, against various digital vulnerabilities.
