Notion Challenges AI Notetakers like Granola with Its New Transcription Tool

by admin

The meeting transcription market is increasingly competitive, with various productivity platforms integrating AI-powered transcription features. Notable entrants include ClickUp, Zoom, and new players like Read AI, Circleback, Granola, and Otter, all vying for prominence.

One of the latest companies to join this landscape is Notion, which has introduced an AI-driven meeting note-taking feature. This tool allows users to transcribe meetings in real-time, facilitating note-taking while generating summaries of key discussion points—similar to what Granola offers.

Notion’s transcription feature marks a significant step towards establishing the platform as a comprehensive productivity suite, potentially rivaling giants like Google and Microsoft. Utilizing system audio to transcribe conversations, the feature is currently accessible on Mac devices (app version 4.7.0) and will soon be available on its mobile app.

To use the new AI note-taking feature, users simply type “/meet” on a Notion page. A prompt encourages obtaining consent from all meeting participants before activating transcription, ensuring compliance and respect for privacy. After the meeting, clicking ‘stop’ will generate an AI summary, with formatting options available for different types of meetings, such as Sales Calls or Team Meetings.

Notion’s support indicates that this feature supports multiple languages, including English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, and more, catering to a diverse user base.

In addition to transcription, Notion is enhancing its offerings for enterprise customers with new features like enterprise search and research mode, enabling users to search across various applications and create shareable documents using AI-driven insights. Notion AI enhances the user experience by allowing queries across meeting notes and documents, promoting collaboration and efficiency.

These updates come as part of Notion’s efforts to expand beyond its original focus on notes and documents. Earlier, it introduced a calendar feature and recently launched an AI-powered email client for Gmail, indicating its commitment to becoming a multifaceted productivity tool.

As Notion continues to innovate, its AI-powered tools promise to streamline workflows and enhance productivity for users, positioning the platform as a formidable contender in the productivity software landscape.
