VSCO Unveils an AI-Enhanced Collaborative Moodboard

by admin

On Wednesday, VSCO introduced a new AI-enhanced collaborative moodboard feature named ‘Canvas’, aimed at expanding the capabilities of its photo and video editing platform for artists and photographers. This innovative tool allows users to import and edit their images with the full suite of VSCO’s traditional editing features, such as tweaking shadows, brightness, exposure, and various colour settings.

The integration of AI comes into play when generating images from text prompts. Canvas enables users to select specific areas of an image and utilize a “region prompt” function, allowing for custom AI-based recreations of those sections. Users can adjust the intensity of these modifications through a slider, which facilitates the creation of diverse image versions. A variation button is also included, providing options to generate alternative versions of images while allowing users to control how closely these variations resemble the original.

A standout aspect of Canvas is its collaboration feature that permits users to share moodboards with other participants in a project, thus fostering a more dynamic creative process. As explained by VSCO’s CEO, Eric Wittman, the tool aims to offer a more tailored solution for photographers who traditionally rely on platforms like Google Slides or Pinterest to present project concepts to clients.

The technology underpinning this new feature derives from VSCO’s acquisition of Facet, a start-up that previously attracted over $13 million in funding. This integration marks the first occurrence of AI features being incorporated into VSCO’s offerings, and the early response has been promising, with reports indicating that over 84% of the content generated during Canvas’s testing phase was created with AI assistance.

Looking ahead, VSCO plans to enhance Canvas by allowing users to search through and import images from the VSCO platform, thereby streamlining the moodboarding process even further. This announcement comes shortly after Adobe launched its own AI-driven moodboard with similar functionalities, while various startups like Visual Electric, Cove, and Kosmik are also exploring collaborative platforms for idea development.

Canvas is accessible to all users, although paying subscribers will benefit from additional credits for image generation and prompts using the AI features. Overall, this launch positions VSCO among the forefront of tools blending creative ideation and advanced technology, catering to the evolving needs of visual artists.
