Airbnb discreetly launches an AI-powered customer service bot across the United States.

by admin

Airbnb has begun deploying an AI-driven customer service bot across the U.S., as announced by CEO Brian Chesky during the company’s first-quarter earnings call. Currently, 50% of Airbnb’s U.S. users have accessed this chatbot, and the company plans to extend its availability to all users nationwide this month.

Chesky highlighted that the introduction of the AI service has simplified customer interactions, resulting in a 15% decrease in the number of customers needing to reach out to human representatives. Previously, last year, Airbnb had initiated limited testing of this AI feature, focusing on specific queries.

Nathan Blecharczyk, Airbnb’s co-founder, expressed optimism about the broader applications of AI, indicating that the technology could significantly transform the consumer experience over time. However, unlike competitors such as OpenAI and Google, which are rapidly advancing AI capabilities across various tasks, Airbnb is adopting a more cautious approach. Chesky has stated intentions to first integrate AI in customer service before exploring its potential for travel planning or ticket booking, viewing the current phase of AI development as still nascent.

In contrast, rival companies like Expedia and Booking.com are aggressively incorporating AI features to enhance user experiences, including itinerary creation and real-time travel updates.

In financial updates, Airbnb reported a revenue of $2.27 billion for the first quarter, marking a 6% increase year-on-year. However, the company has projected revenues for the next quarter that slightly fall short of analysts’ expectations, suggesting a potential slowing of travel demand due to external economic factors, such as global tariff tensions, which may affect consumer spending.
