WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature aimed at enhancing user privacy, called “Advanced Chat Privacy.” Announced on Wednesday, this setting will prevent users from exporting chats and automatically downloading media to their devices, thereby offering an added layer of confidentiality to conversations.
Additionally, this feature restricts users from mentioning or querying Meta AI within their chats. The intention behind these measures is to instil trust among group members, ensuring that discussions remain confidential and aren’t leaked outside of the chat.
While users will still have the ability to take screenshots, WhatsApp has indicated plans to further develop the Advanced Chat Privacy feature, which could include future restrictions on capturing screen content.
This enhancement is particularly useful in scenarios where individuals may not know each other well but need to discuss sensitive issues—such as health concerns in support groups or important community matters. Enabling this feature is straightforward; users simply need to select the “Advanced Chat Privacy” option through the chat settings.
The feature will be rolled out gradually over the next few months and will be available for both individual and group conversations. Although WhatsApp already provides end-to-end encryption for its chats, the Advanced Chat Privacy setting aims to bolster user security even further. This new capability joins WhatsApp’s existing privacy features, which include disappearing messages and chat locking options.
