Endor Labs Secures $93M in Funding to Develop Tools for Identifying Vulnerabilities in AI-Generated Code

by admin

AI-generated code is revolutionising software development, but it also brings new security risks. A recent survey by Synk revealed that over half of organisations face security challenges with AI-generated code regularly.

In light of these rising concerns, Endor Labs has shifted its focus from simply securing open-source package dependencies to addressing vulnerabilities in the increasing volume of AI-generated code. Co-founders Varun Badhwar and Dimitri Stiliadis recognised a growing demand for solutions that identify and remediate security flaws in code crafted with AI assistance.

Endor Labs now boasts a platform that not only reviews code for security risks but also suggests specific fixes and can implement them automatically. By integrating with AI programming tools like Cursor and GitHub Copilot, Endor’s system scans code in real-time, flagging potential issues as developers write.

This strategic pivot appears to be a fruitful decision. The company recently announced a successful $93 million Series B funding round, spearheaded by DFJ Growth, with contributions from Salesforce Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Coatue, Dell Technologies Capital, Section 32, and Citi Ventures. Badhwar indicated that this funding values Endor significantly higher than its previous Series A round, which raised $70 million.

The new capital injection, totalling $163 million to date, will further enhance Endor’s platform capabilities. Badhwar noted a remarkable 30x growth in annual recurring revenue since their Series A in 2023, stating that this momentum allowed them to secure funding despite challenging economic conditions.

In addition to code reviews, Endor has introduced a tool that assists organisations in identifying AI model integrations within their codebase, assessing these for security vulnerabilities. This added functionality aims to bolster oversight as AI programming tools become increasingly prevalent.

Currently, Endor Labs protects over five million applications and conducts more than one million scans weekly for high-profile clients, including OpenAI, Rubrik, Peloton, Snowflake, Egnyte, and Dropbox. Since its stealth launch in October 2022, Endor has observed substantial traction, even amidst rising interest rates.

Ramin Sayar from DFJ Growth emphasised the timely nature of Endor’s innovations, noting that as generative AI transforms coding methods, developers are producing vast amounts of code without adequate security oversight. He believes Endor Labs is establishing a new benchmark in application security and leading a movement with their enhanced platform.

With a team of 133 employees situated in Palo Alto and Bangalore, Endor Labs is well-positioned to tackle the evolving challenges of code security in the AI landscape.
