SymbyAI, a software-as-a-service platform utilizing artificial intelligence to simplify scientific research, has successfully raised $2.1 million in a seed funding round, with contributions from Drive Capital, CharacterVC, and several others.
Founded last year by Ashia Livaudais and Michael House, SymbyAI offers researchers organized workspaces where they can find papers, code, data, and insights all in one convenient location. The platform not only monitors progress but also features AI tools designed to assist with peer reviews and replication processes.
“It’s crucial to understand that SymbyAI is built on a proprietary AI framework, which means users can rest assured that their confidential information will not be inadvertently shared with OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar entities,” Livaudais explained to TechCrunch. The intellectual property of researchers remains with them and is not used for training SymbyAI’s foundational models.
According to Livaudais, her motivation to establish the company stemmed from her direct experiences with the outdated process of conducting and reviewing scientific work.
“The concept for SymbyAI emerged from my quest to resolve personal challenges I faced daily, only to discover that my peers in the research field were grappling with identical issues,” she mentioned. “As we realized our ability to drastically reduce crucial research timelines from months to mere hours, the demand for a market-ready solution began to emerge in nearly every discussion I had.”
SymbyAI collaborates with academic publishers, research institutions, and universities. Livaudais shared that she connected with her investors through her participation in the gBeta program, part of gener8tor. Through this program, she met her early investors, including Antler, which provided initial support by investing in the pre-seed round as well.
The company aims to utilize the recent seed funding to further develop its offerings and strengthen initial partnerships.
