Amazon Describes Alexa+ as ‘Model Agnostic’

by admin

On Wednesday, Amazon introduced the enhanced Alexa+, which operates on a “model agnostic” framework that consistently utilizes the most suitable AI model for each specific task.

During a press event held in New York City, Amazon Vice President Daniel Rausch explained that Alexa+ harnesses Bedrock, Amazon’s cloud infrastructure tailored for organizations to innovate with generative AI models, to deliver its diverse functionalities.

Alexa+ utilizes a variety of models, including Amazon Nova, which is part of Amazon’s suite of proprietary generative AI systems, as well as models developed in collaboration with Anthropic, one of Amazon’s key partners.

This “model agnostic” strategy facilitates the development of capabilities that can be regarded as “agentic.” According to Amazon, Alexa+ employs a system dubbed “experts” which is designed for specific tasks. These experts manage and implement both first-party Amazon services and offerings from external third parties.

Rausch mentioned that from Day One, Alexa+ will be compatible with “tens of thousands” of devices and services.

Included among these services are news outlets. Amazon has teamed up with publications like Time, Reuters, and the Associated Press to provide information for inquiries related to news, financial markets, and more.

This is just a glimpse of Alexa+’s capabilities. Rausch indicated that Alexa+ is capable of browsing websites to handle tasks for users. For instance, it can search online to find a technician to fix a malfunctioning oven and can even reach out to the repair service on its own.

“Alexa takes a couple of minutes to browse a website, then comes back to inform me it’s completed,” Rausch noted. “I’ll receive a notification on my phone once Alexa has finished the task.”
