Instagram is rolling out a novel method for creators to collaborate with brands to earn revenue through product recommendations. On Thursday, Meta unveiled a new feature for its Partnership Ads called Testimonials, enabling creators to receive compensation for written endorsements that are shared as comments on the brand’s social media posts and ads.
This latest ad format aims to capitalize on a trend already prevalent in social media.
Currently, numerous brands employ paid commenters or provide incentives for customers to leave favorable reviews. This practice can create confusion for consumers researching products, making it challenging to distinguish between genuine customer feedback and potentially orchestrated comments.
By allowing creators to identify themselves as compensated promoters, brands can enhance their appeal among the creator’s followers while promoting greater transparency regarding creator-brand relationships. Despite being paid endorsements rather than organic testimonials, creators stand to lose their reputations if they are not discerning in their recommendations. A lack of selectivity can erode the trust of their audience.

Meta states that 40% of users now rely on creator recommendations on Instagram while shopping.
Through Partnership Ads, these recommendations have previously appeared as branded content that includes a paid partnership label, and even collaborative posts featuring both the brand and creator’s handles as authors.
The new Testimonials feature allows creators to compose brief messages of under 125 characters that link back to the brand’s campaign or the advertised product. To participate, creators will submit their written endorsements to the brand, which will then be attached to the respective ad.
These testimonials will be prominently displayed at the top of the comments section on the Instagram posts, granting increased visibility to both the comments and the creators behind them.
Additionally, creators will be able to monitor these testimonials along with other Partnership Ads through their Creator Settings on the app, enabling them to track the utilization of their content and even withdraw their contributions if necessary.
