Hasan Sukkar, the founder of AI startup 11x, has announced his resignation as CEO, a move he shared via LinkedIn. The company’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Prabhav Jain, has been appointed as his successor. Sukkar will transition into a role as Non-Executive Chairman, where he intends to collaborate with Jain on strategic planning, product vision, industry connections, and exploring new market avenues.
Reflecting on his decision, Sukkar expressed the importance of leadership transitions in the growth of a startup, stating that while he is passionate about building from the ground up, he recognises the need for fresh leadership to steer the company towards its next phase. He affirmed his commitment to 11x and its mission, indicating a strong belief in the potential ahead.
Despite the excitement surrounding the leadership change, 11x has faced scrutiny in recent months. Reports emerged about the company displaying logos of inactive customers on its website, leading to legal threats from one mentioned firm. Additionally, concerns about product issues and customer retention have been raised, with some employees labelling the work environment as challenging.
The company has secured over $70 million in funding, including significant rounds led by investors such as Benchmark and Andreessen Horowitz. In response to Sukkar’s departure, Joe Schmidt from a16z and Sarah Tavel from Benchmark both expressed their support for the team and optimism for its future.
In remarks from 11x representatives, the leadership change marks a pivotal moment as the company transitions from a single-product focus to a broader platform supporting various go-to-market teams. Sukkar, with his extensive experience, is expected to guide Jain and the company during this critical growth phase.
As the tech industry observes these developments, Benchmark and Andreessen Horowitz have declined immediate comment on the changes.
